I carry the MTHFR gene mutation — a genetic variant that impairs my liver's ability to detoxify. Combined with a family history of liver disease, alcohol isn't just unhealthy for me. It's a direct threat.

But the desire doesn't disappear. The feeling. The ritual. The way a drink at the end of a long day signals to your nervous system that it's safe to shift — from performance mode to presence. From cortisol to calm. That's not a vice. That's a fundamental human need.
